Stainless Steel (Metal) braces

Metal braces are made from stainless steel and are the most commonly used braces. The braces are bonded (temporarily glued) to the tooth surface. Modern technology means that metal braces are now much smaller and less obvious than they were in the past. Orthodontic wires are held into the slot in the braces using small elastic o-rings which can come in a wide range of colours. Check out our “Create your Smile” section to have fun choosing your colours!

Clear (Aesthetic) braces

Clear braces are made from a ceramic or polycarbonate material. They are slightly bulkier than metal braces but slightly less obvious due to their colour. Many adults choose to have clear braces during their orthodontic treatment. Because clear braces are more brittle and prone to breakage than metal braces, they are not suitable for all types of treatment. Our orthodontists can discuss with you whether or not clear braces would be a suitable option when they examine your bite.
